Fueling the Future of the Americas
A New, Strategic Ethanol Information Campaign
The Interamerican Ethanol Commission recognizes that lack of information and misinformation are among the principal obstacles hindering expansion of the ethanol market, and the commission views education as key to the success of increased ethanol production and consumption.
As a result, the IEC is launching a new, strategic ethanol information campaign with the goal of serving as a clearinghouse for up to date, accurate, and objective information on ethanol. This information will be shared with the general public, policy makers and shakers, industries, and investors.
Among the readily identifiable issues on which the IEC seeks to provide current, accurate information are:

The environmental impact of ethanol

The Food vs. Fuel dilemma

Whether or not production can meet consumption objectives
-
The implications of quotas
-
The impact of tariffs and tax credits
-
Infrastructure needs and distribution challenges
-
Carbon credits as investment incentive
The Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) is currently helping the IEC to gather information on a wide array of issues related to ethanol on all of the institution’s member states, and these studies are set to be completed by the end of April.
The IEC will employ the following methods to disseminate this information:

Maintaining a thorough, frequently updated website

Producing and releasing periodic reports

Submitting Opinion Editorials by the co-chairs and IEC board members

Providing experts to speak at policy forums and road shows throughout the hemisphere

Hosting a speaker’s bureau

Distributing a quarterly newsletter
